AutoWeek is reporting today that Ford may be planning to offer an economy car that falls in below the Focus in its US lineup for the 2007 or 2008 model year. According to AutoWeek, retiring Ford executive Jim O'Connor confirmed the company's intentions during an interview with Automotive News. Insiders are expecting the new subcompact to be a version of the Ford EcoSport, which rides on the Fiesta platform, for which Mazda is handling next-generation development duties. It's like the '70s all over again. Next thing, we'll be waiting in gas lines, having group sex in Chevy vans, and eating fondue. Actually, it'll be just like 1991.
