The UK's Autocar is considering that some conceptual sketches BMW released at the Los Angeles auto show could indicate the carmaker is building a new top-of-the-mast roadster. Of course, it could just indicate the advanced doodlings of a bored intern. Then again, it could be an F1-powered sex machine that will make the Z8 look like a Datsun 240Z. Speculation, thy name is us. Click through for more.
The sketches, issued from BMW s Designworks studio, refer to a concept called the "California Spyder," with a folding carbon fiber roof and a 700bhp V10 engine from the BMW-Williams Formula One car.
Autocar reasonably concludes the car could be a flagship project BMW bosses have admitted is in the works. A high-ranking BMW official reportedly told several financial analysts last July that BMW was considering such a car, and watching market conditions before making a decision. The magazine also concludes the highline roadster could be launched from the Z8 s aluMinium chassis. It would be safe to assume the luscious Z8, designed by former Designworks chief, Henrik Fisker, is ripe for an upgrade.
