Iowa blogger State 29 reports on his state executive's plan to trade out of his 2005 GMC Yukon in favor of a "new flexible fuel SUV" that runs on E85, a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline that's inconvenient to buy even in that corn-rich state. Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack has yet to announce which vehicle he'll be trading to, though GM builds flex-fuel versions of its 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon SUVs that run on E85, so a one-to-one switch of the Yukon is a possibility. Then again, aren't there any better choices for Vilsack, who won't be seeking reelection in 2006. Like, say, biodiesel, which actually leads to an increase in fuel economy, rather than a 10%-15% decrease? Someone oughta check this out.
