Volkswagen's development head says the company's future models will be built to accommodate hybrid-drive systems. That in an interview with Germany's Automobilwoche. Apparently VW's hedging its bets in the high-mileage sweepstakes, investing in both diesels, hybrids and even full electrics. VW's coming rear-engine small model — based on the Up! concept shown in Frankfurt — is scheduled to hit production in 2011. According to Automotive News it'll be offered in both full- and mild-hybrid formats. No word on flower vase or built-in roach clip options.
