As Subaru reps said at the New York auto show last April, the company is launching its SI-Drive system for the 2007 model year. The system's three-position knob lets drivers adjust engine performance for driving needs and conditions — from economical to sporty. Driving modes include "Sport Sharp," which delivers the bulk of torque up front, "Intelligent," which heightens fuel efficiency, and "a-hole," which makes the car to reach every toll booth first, come hell or merging traffic. Subaru confirmed yesterday it would include the system in premium models of its 2007 Legacy (Liberty in Australia) and Outback models, which will be available to interested knob twiddlers starting September 1, 2006.
