It's hard to tell you how an underwhelming product unveil feels like until you've been at one. At auto shows like the Detroit Auto Show, you can feel the whole energy being sucked out of the room when pretty much everyone feels like groaning at the sight of a new car.
That's kind of what happened at the Acura stand this year. The TLX isn't offensive in any way, but it isn't exciting, either. It's just some red, four-wheeled thing.
The same thing happened at the 2014 Honda Civic launch in LA a couple months ago. I had no idea it was new. It continues to be a trend with Honda and Acura, and you've noticed.
In fact, it's been put to song. Unfortunately. Take it away, Ravey Mayvey:
The Song of Acura
Never made it as an Acura
You couldn't cut it as a poor man's Bimmer
Tired of living like a blind man
I'm sick of steering without a sense of feelingAnd this is how you remind me
This is how you remind me
Of what I really want
This is how you remind me
Of what I really wantIt's not like you to stay stagnant
I was waiting on a car more sporty
This time I'm mistaken
For handing you a few lease payments
And I've been wrong, I've been down,
Been to the bottom of every gas tank
These five words in my head
Scream "are we having fun yet?"Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no
Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no
It goes on. And no, it isn't much better.
But there is a Honda version, thanks to Vin:
When I'm *drivin' I'm thinkin' bout another car
Time and time, again
At sunrise, I fight to stay asleep
'Cause I don't want to touch my Acura anymore
Cause it's **boredom, a wrapped up in a ***snorefest
From the company that somehow made, NSXsSo don't go there
Let's rent an Escape
(I keed) don't go there
How much more can we take? Can you take me, Honda?
To a place where redlines scream
Can you take me, Honda?
To a place where Type R's gleam
Help us, Honda.
