Ford has announced that rather than using the CD3 platform that underpins the Mazda 6, the next mid-sized Volvos, as well as the Mondeo and next-gen X-Type, will be built on an enlarged version of the C1 called the EUCD. While Ford so far hasn't allowed engineers to comment publicly on the decision, it could be that it would make for easier plant switchovers in Europe. However, the CD3 ain't dead yet. Ford plans to sell 900,000 vehicles a year based on it, primarily their U.S.-based mid-sizers. If the goddamn C1's so good, Ford, how come we've still got the old Focus? Bah.
