You would think that people would know a black-and-white Maserati with 'Punish and Enslave' written on the side isn't a cop car. That didn't stop a Massachusetts police officer from charging the sports car owner for impersonating a cop.

The local Patriot Ledger reports that Braintree, Mass patrol officer Blake Holt spotted the 2010-model Maserati GranTurismo on Saturday afternoon.

He said Holt "didn't know of any (police) department that had a Maserati," so he turned on his cruiser's lights and stopped the Maserati.

The Italian luxury car typically costs $100,000 or more.

While it might seem absurd that anyone would mistake a Ferrari-engined sports car for a police vehicle, this Maserati did have decals for 9-1-1, K-9, and speed enforcement.

Moreover, the unidentified Maserati driver did not exactly make a good case for himself, telling the officer he was actually assisting the police, "because other drivers noticed him and slowed down, thinking it was a police vehicle."

This does not appear to have been a successful debate tactic, and the driver will be appearing before a clerk magistrate soon.
