This is Jake Wile. He's in the middle of hammering his BMW through an autocross course with his girlfriend Maggie in the passenger seat. He's about to propose to her right on the course. Surely this is the best proposal there has ever been.
Here's the proposal, from right after he does a big, showy, handbrake slide.
"Don't show off."
"I gotta ask you something."
"What."
"I gotta ask you something."
"What?"
"You're the most amazing woman I've ever met in my life. Every minute has been a joy. I want you to be on my team for life, and I want you to be my co-driver for life. Would you take your helmet off? Maggie O'Brien, would you marry me?"
"Shit, yeah. Yeah. Aww, I'm stuck. (un-does her belts) Yes."
He puts on the ring, they make it back to the pits, share a (non alcoholic) drink, and she delivers the best line of the day.
"You screwed up my times for the rest of the day!"
If that's not proof she's a keeper, I don't know what is.
If you're curious, he did throw off her game a bit.
"She is normally about two seconds off my times, but she was more like 3-4 off," Jake told us during a Facebook chat.
The reason why he proposed here as more to do with just their shared love of BMWs and autocross. On their first date Maggie was supposed to come watch an autocross but Jake signed her up behind her back.
"She was really pissed, but loved it!"
They've been driving and working on the car together for the last two years. She recently installed the clutch so, I think a ring is an entirely fair way to repay her.
