How To Keep 1,224 Horsepower On The Ground

John Hennessey's Venom GT is an insane car. Starting with the 1,224 hp 7.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that's basically the whole point, it's an amazing feat of high power engineering.


So Hennessey, the twin turbo touting Texan whose snarling creations we adore so much, has been back at the airstrip to road test the Venom GT's traction control system. That's a pretty important bit when you're trying to pump that much power through two relatively small patches of rubber and onto the pavement.

But the results look good. The car hit 124 mph in 7.96 seconds, 186 mph in 13.48 seconds, and 230 mph in 19.96 seconds. Here's what Hennessey had to say about the test:

The following video shows our first instrumented test (VBox) as we test our new engine management system. This system integrates traction and boost control. And in the process allows the driver to easily control all 1244 bhp. As you will hear during the video, the traction control system is still working well into 3rd gear (over 100 mph) at which point the full power of the car is unleashed.

But don't take anyone's word for it. You can try one out for yourself if you can come up with the $1.1 million purchase price. But for something that'll slay Ferraris, dragons, and any manner of other scary beasts, that's not really all that bad of a deal.
