If you lined up all the potential supermodels who fell victim to booger sugar, you could power at least fifteen locomotives with all of the wasted hotness. But that's not what we're talking about here. Scientists are working with thermoelectrics materials that convert heat into electricity and predict that they could possibly replace alternators altogether just by harnessing the engine's wasted heat.
Of course, that warmth isn't inconsiderable; up to 70% of the energy produced by internal combustion is lost to heat. It's conceivable that themoelectrics could one day not only power traditional electric accessories, but also engine-driven pieces like water and oil pumps. Well, if they can't blind you with hotttness, they can always make with the science to accomplish the same task, no?
