We’re all familiar with “leave me alone, I know what I’m doing,” but here’s the exact opposite. Legendarily-named Australian touring car great Dick Johnson not only knows what he’s doing, but he’ll gladly have a laid-back chat with the Channel 7 broadcast team as he flogs a car around the Bathurst 1000.

This year’s running of the Bathurst 1000 is this weekend, but here’s a blast from the past from the V8 Supercars’ predecessor, the Australian Touring Car Championship. The hill is just as narrow and perilous as it’s ever been, and if you need a break for a chat, the extremely long Conrod Straight is the place to do it.

While other drivers might mince words about it, Johnson doesn’t dance around the fact that slower traffic is “bloody hopeless.”
