The irony of globalization is palpable in South Carolina, as the 500,000th BMW X5 rolls off the line in Spartanburg. Not only is it destined for a dealer in Hamburg, Germany, but it's got the 3.0-liter inline diesel six, which has yet to be made available in the states (though BMW says it's serious about stateside diesels). See? The weak dollar is good for something other than getting reamed with at the Barclays exchange desk.
