Gulf Coast Aid: Automakers Sound Off

Like most of their corporate peers, carmakers are pulling together plans to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina in Gulf Coast States. Most have pledged at least six-figure donations to the American Red Cross (way to embarass the Yankees, Toyota: $5 million) along with deferral options for their buyers in those areas with outstanding loans. Some have even offered vehicles for use in relief efforts. Click through for the roster as it stands.

DaimlerChrysler: Chrysler Group donating $500,000 to the American Red Cross and other charities, $150,000 from employees. Will work with affected customers individually to reduce or defer payments; Mercedes-Benz to offer car-payment extensions, up to 90-day deferrals

Ford: $100,000 to American Red Cross; deferral of car payments to customers in declared disaster areas; matching employee donations

GM: $400,000 donation to the American Red Cross, allowing agency use of 150 vehicles for relief efforts; matching employee donations up to $250,000

Honda: Maintaining 20 generators for use by the Red Cross

Nissan: $500,000 donation to American Red Cross's Hurricane 2005 Relief Fund, $1 lease of 50 Titan pickup trucks to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA)
