Seriously, Glenn Miller studied with a guy named Joseph Schillinger, whose Schillinger System formulaic patterns of rhythm, melody, harmony, and other tenets to create music deemed "emotionally descriptive" by the method's champions. In addition to Miller, the New School professor taught many of the early 20th century's musical greats, including George Gershwin, Benny Goodman, and even Léon Theremin.
