Blogger and part-time private investigator specializing in dance, Jason Kottke tracked down the guy behind the digitized Gene Kelly mask in the recent "Singin' in the Rain" commercial for the VW GTi. It's dancer David Bernal, aka Elsewhere, who's appeared in ads for Heiniken and on the Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel, and Steve Harvey shows. Despite rumors, the Volkswagen GTi was NOT played by John Goodman.
