A garbage truck with an allegedly intoxicated individual at the wheel raised absolute hell in Brooklyn, NY over the weekend. Nine vehicles and a few trees were apparently destroyed as the heavy three-axle sanitation truck tore around and landed in somebody’s front gate.
CBS New York captured some of the calamity as it happened via security footage:
And sent a reporter to look at the aftermath:
Local news tells us 40-year-old Anthony Castaldo was apprehended by police after coming out of the garbage truck and trying to escape on foot. Police put the incident at “just after 5:30 a.m. Saturday,” on 6th Street between 18th and 19th Avenues.
Viking Sanitation, which owns the vehicle, gave a statement to CBS:
“It appears that this driver failed to adhere to our standards and he was immediately suspended as part of the ongoing investigation of this serious incident.”
Indeed. It hasn’t been made known yet if Castaldo was on duty while this all went down, but either way, good grief. A little rampaging goes a long way when a truck weighs about 50,000 pounds.
Thankfully and miraculously, witnesses say nobody was hurt.
