Over the weekend, DaimlerChrysler announced its Smart brand will sacrifice another of its models to the gods of generally accepted accounting principles. First it was the roadster. This time it's curtains for the slow-selling ForFour, the four-door, four-seater Smart car that was a joint development project with Mitsubishi. What's more, Mercedes will absorb the Smart brand, ending its run as a separate division, though DCX will take a $1.2 billion charge to end the ForFour's production. The company says the moves will finally make the brand, which will likely bring its next ForTwo to the US, a moneymaker.
