A US-based law firm filed suit against Ford Motor Company on behalf of a Canadian resident, alleging several motorists have been killed or seriously hurt in accidents when vehicle doors came open due to faulty latches.

The Canadian lawsuit says Ford installed defective door latches in 1997-2000 model years of F-150 and F-250 Super Light Duty pickups and Expedition SUVs, as well as Lincoln Black pickups and Navigator SUVs.

Earlier this year, Ford reached a settlement with the families of two sisters who died during a 2002 rollover accident involving their 1999 F-150, in a suit filed on their behalf.
