A prophet once foretold of a fiesty hot hatch with a divinely EcoBoosted engine that provided enough power to please the masses. That prophet was named Justin or Amos or something. The faith of the righteous has been rewarded with the Ford Fiesta ST and its sub 7.0-second 0-to-60 mph time.

Let's get to the good news first: It's probably coming to the United States. In the press release Ford played coy by saying that, while this car is bound for Europe next year, they are "open to introducing the high-performance small car to other regions, including North America for the first time following a highly positive response to the five-door Fiesta ST concept that made its North American debut at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show."


Why, exactly, do we desire this car so much?

Ford's base Fiesta is of the next-gen European cars that cram a lot of handling, fun, style, and options into a tiny footprint. They're also of that generation always seems to be lacking the power we need to hoon the sweet-sweet shit of them.

In European trim the ST gets approximately 180 horsepower from the 1.6-liter EcoBoost fourbanger. With a low-low weight we're talking a 0-to-62 mph time of less than seven seconds. Translate that to American and we can safely assume a 0-to-60 mph time in the high six-second range.

Ford's new bodykit mimics the concept look with lines that are more like creases than pure design features, as if someone's mom ironed them into the rocker panels.


In addition to the typical chassis tweaks (lower, stiffer, more Nürburgringy), Ford added a torque-vectoring control system to help send the right amount of power to the right front wheel before you drive it right into a wall. There are also three modes of stability control, which we'll call: no fun, some fun, and all fun. We're hoping there will also be an off switch.

We'll let you know more when we get closer to actually having an ST here. Just keep praying for doors of three.

I don't know how I feel about a "sub 7-second 0-60" exactly. This thing better handle like it's on fucking rails. Because my midsize Volvo with a light pressure turbo can achieve that.

And no doubt because it's a Fiesta (just like the focus) it'll be ungodly overpriced. And then make the answer simply "miata".
