Fiat Sets Itself on New Tack

In the wake of their nice stash of kiss-off money from former lover General Motors, Fiat's working to reposition their brand. (How come we always date spendthrift girls, and thus end up with nothing but a flat wallet, an empty bottle and a broken heart, but Fiat gets the gold?) Facing the threat of an influx of cheap Chinese cars into the European small car market, traditionally Fiat's bread and garlic butter, the Italian automaker is planning to use fewer platforms, but to launch 20 new models and 23 facelifted cars over the next four years. We're curious to see how this one plays out; it's a big gamble for the company, but they've long needed to restructure, and now that they're out from under GM's crushing depression with some money to play with, it'll be interesting to see how they spend it.
