Steve Mattin, the designer responsible for such Mercedes icons as the newest generation of the SL and the Grand Sports Tourer Vision R concept, will join Volvo as vice president and design director, starting May 1. Mattin will be responsible for Volvo's continued quest to refigure the cube as a sex object. He will be replacing God, who's leaving the top Volvo design spot because, he says, the job is "just freaking impossible."
