Just as in the states, activists in the UK have answered the widening use of SUVs with tactics aimed at shaming drivers into compliance. They've "issued" phony tickets, gathered to block their way, applied stickers to the vehicles and otherwise bullied in protestation.
Just as in the US, the objections are rooted in the perception of wasteful behavior among buyers of truck-like vehicles resulting in environmental peril, roadway clutter and more collision-related deaths — assumingly among drivers of more sensible cars. Nissan answered the charges, in line-item format, in a press release it issued yesterday, as did Auto Express columnist Mike Rutherford in an article posted earlier in the week. For sure, this proxy battle in the world's culture war is poised to erupt. Time to take cover.
