Volkswagen oughta learn not to mess with the guv'ment. The Environmental Protection Agency fined the people's wagonwright $1.1 million for taking more than a year to report and fix an emissions defect on 326,000 Golf, Jetta and New Beetle models from 1999, 2000 and 2001. The fine is in addition to the $26 million VW spent recalling and fixing the cracked oxygen sensors that had been making the cars more environmentally stinky than usual.
