Do you live your life a quarter mile at a time? Are you always getting on your friends' nerves because of them granny shifting and not double-clutching like they should? Well, here's a challenge: Find cars on eBay that will smoke anything on a quarter mile track, for less than $15,000. Go!

Here are the rules:

  • Selections aren't limited to simply 'cars' (kit cars, trucks, and military/commercial vehicles included)
  • Cars must have a realistic selling price under $15,000.
  • Cars must be operable/easily restored to running condition.
  • Completed and sold listings can be included.
  • You're encouraged to add modifications, as long as it doesn't go over the total budget.
  • Write a short reason why your car is the best drag car for less than $15,000 .

Now go find a car that can put bus lengths on the car in the other lane.

I'll arrange the best selections afterwards. You have until the end of the weekend.

Find a 4 or 6 cyl Mustang from '85 - '93 for $500. Throw away the interior, glass & drivetrain. There are so many cheap, used, but well made go fast parts, you will have a hard time deciding. A used 408 stroker will easily make 500 bulletproof HP for less than $2k. A modded C4 with a transbrake $2k. A lightweight K member to locate the engine under $500 used. There's a ton of great 8.8 diff & rear suspension upgrades that can be found used for $1500. Add a roll cage ($750), fire suppression ($500), Fuel cell $500, and $3k for wheels/tires, body panels, and a used trailer. For under $12k, you'll have a bracket racer or a 10.5 heads up car that's easy (and cheap) to race and maintain. These cars don't brake and parts are plentiful.
