Easily one of the most badass vehicles in Christopher Nolan’s
The Dark Knight Trilogy was the Batpod, the crazy motorcycle that came shooting out of the wrecked Tumbler after the Joker shot a bazooka at it. And now you have a chance to bid for it.
Movie prop art collector and seller Prop Store was able to get its hands on the actual Batpod from Warner Bros. that was used in The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. The bike has a custom-made chassis with 31-inch Hoosier racing tires and a Honda 750 cc engine. The engine and handlebars are covered with gray fiberglass body panels.
It also comes with a pair of plastic cannon barrels and a laser targeting unit. Hydraulics and a radiator are located behind the saddle. And if you wondered if Batman was comfortable while riding the Batpod, he probably was—the body, saddle and knee rests have been fitted with black foam padding.
The listing reads:
The unique Pod is designed for a rider in a prone position who steers the vehicle with their arms and shoulders, and features advanced design elements such as an exhaust system integrated within the framework. The vehicles were largely driven by stunt rider Jean-Pierre Goy during filming, and were used for numerous events in the promotion of The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises.
Anyone interested should also note that there is some wear from use on the chassis and on one of the gun mounts.
Prop Store estimates that the Batpod will go for between £60,000 to £80,000, or about $80,000 to $106,000.
You’re also not really supposed to drive it, because it’s being sold in “non-functional ‘rolling only’ condition.” It has no fluids, a battery, a fuel tank or throttle controls.
Look, I’m not saying that you should do this... but it doesn’t sound that hard to put all that stuff back into the Batpod yourself. Because how else would you pull off a stunt like this?
Listen, you either die a hero on your motorcycle, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.
