Dodge today revealed that its high- performance Charger SRT8 will ring in well short of the long-suspected $40,000 mark. The in-house tuned Charger will get Chrysler's outsized 6.1-liter HEMI V8 engine, tweaked to produce 425hp and 420 ft/lbs of torque — enough to give the bulky sedan a zero-to-60 time in the low five-second range and quarter-mile times in the 14-second range, according to the company. Expected to reach showrooms this November, the SRT8 will cost $35,995, including a $675 destination fee, or $6,000 more than the Charger R/T. In horsepower-per-dollar terms, that price almost sounds like a bargain.
