Today we learned that more than likely, the 2016 Mazda Miata-sourced roadster being co-developed with Fiat Chrysler is going to the Fiat brand instead of Alfa Romeo. The question now is this: which one do you buy?
Enthusiasts have loved the Miata since its inception for its simplicity, handling excellence, open top fun and reliably Japanese take on the classic European roadster. Competitors have come and gone over the years, but the Miata is still standing.
In a few years the Miata will get the most direct competition it has had in some time, and that competitor will share a lot of its guts. Over the weekend we met a 2016 Miata mule with what appeared to be a 1.4-liter MultiAir turbo engine under its hood. I think we can safely assume that mule was for the Fiat roadster.
The Miata is still always the answer, but the Fiat has that European prestige behind it, and possibly also the insanely fun turbo engine from the 500 Abarth in a small, lightweight, rear-drive package. Will we decide that, as emilminty said, Fiat Is an Answer Too? Weigh in on which you'd prefer in the comments.
