Nearly everyone's heard of a stock 1930s coupe being modified for racing. What makes this one a find is that the reverse is also true. Between 1949 and 1954, it was a highly modified racer on the Bonneville salt flats, disassembled and stored since the 1950s, until the current owner picked it up (literally) at a swap meet in Spokane, Washington. After an extensive resto and custom job, including "de-chopping" the roof to give it back its stock height and adding a 350ci Chevy motor from a 1981 Corvette, the Ford is closer to stock than it was 55 years ago. Nearly.
