Daimler Transit Buses Recalled Over Potential Flame-Belching Brakes

If the movie Speed forms the basis of your experience with public buses, you may have a natural fear that deranged terrorists lurk in the middle row of nearly every city bus. Although bus hijackings are pretty rare (in the U.S., anyway), bus fires could be a reality for riders on some of Daimler's 2011-2012 Orion VII transit buses.

According the the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Daimler issued a recall for a brake problem — one where the brakes could lock up, overheating the brakes and catching the wheels on fire. Less than 200 buses are affected by the recall, but if you're bored with your daily bus commute, you can relish in the terror that this bus — the one you're riding on right ... now — could be a fiery brakes-having monster.

Good luck out there.
