There's a great story about the Americans spending millions developing a space age pen that could work in space while the Russians just used a pencil. It's not true. American astronauts used pencils but broken led and the propensity of things to burst into flames in all oxygen environments made this a bad idea. A scientist developed it himself, sent it to NASA and both the Americans and Russians quickly adopted the pen. The COTD by LoganSix about the latest round of IIIHS SUV crashes made us think of this story.
You know, if they would just get those driverless cement bumpered vehicles off of the road, then I think we'd all be safer.
