Commenter Of The Day: Does Soccer Prevent Wars? Edition

There's a bit by Lewis Black where he explains world wars no longer break out because of the far more dangerous and violent world of international soccer. Watching the World Cup this year I think I grasp the wisdom of that point. I'm suddenly involved in caring about nations I normally don't think about (Ghana) against nations I'd never actually want to invade. It's a good dodge. In fact, I think an international incident is more likely to start because of bad officiating than winning/losing a game. Soccer and stereotypes. I think stereotypes also go a long way towards preventing global violence, as F1 Pit Stop post.

Quiet, quick, efficient. Must've been a German or Swiss who designed the F1 pit stop process.

Had it been an Italian, they'd all be waving their arms and yelling, and every now and again whacking the competitors' pit crews.

If a Brit had designed it, there'd be two more guys on the pit crew-one with a tray of tea and biscuits, the other there to refill the Lucas Liquid Electrical Smoke tank.

Had a Swede designed the F1 pit stop process, the car would be required to enter the pit stop in reverse, and the process would take longer because the pit crew members would have perform their complex tasks with only pictogram instructions for assistance.

And if it were a French process, all pit crewmembers would have to remain seated in lawnchairs until the car came to a full and complete stop.

America don't do F1.

But if they did, they'd have 6 guys instead of 28, they'd take twice as long as everyone else, and when they finished they'd all throw their hands in the air and "holler".

Happy 4th e'rbody.
