Commenter Of The Day: Common People Edition

Listening to Pulp's hit song "Common People" in the car yesterday I immediately reconnected with the song's central premise: privileged rich people don't see the world the same way the rest of us do and no amount of pretending to be poor or rejecting their inheritance is going to change that. "You'll never live like common people/ you'll never do what common people do/ you'll never fail like common people/ you'll never watch your life slide out of view/ and dance and drink and screw/ because there's nothing else to do." Truly. And if I didn't already believe this was the case, the story of an abandoned XJ220 sends it home. We've got Elhigh to thank for bringing it home with another verse for the song:

People with money,
and yet without taste
snap up the great things
and leave them to waste.

Exactly.
