The Cafe Au Go Go, like the Bitter End, is one of those places in the 1960s where everyone you've ever heard of performed. Located in Greenwich village (where else?), the place featured the Grateful Dead, Hendrix, Cream, Jefferson Airplane, Van Morrison, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Woody Allen, Steven Stills, Neil Young, and others. In one of the most famous instances, comedian Lenny Bruce was arrested for obscenity, along with the club's owner Howard Solomon. He went blue. By modern standards it wasn't particularly bad. The term "nice tits" isn't exactly incendiary now, but that, along with a lot else, was enough to convict him. When we spoke of unfortunate street names, it only took Love Me Some Peugeot a few minutes to go blue himself.
"So yeah to get to Dumb Woman's Lane you just take Penis Road until it intersects with Slutshole Lane. No I didn't say Cock Hill, I said Penis Road. Correct, then when you reached Cockburn, you are almost there, if you get to Blueball though you went too far."
I much prefer the B'nai Au Go Go.
