Since we moved a few blocks from the Port of Los Angeles, we've taken an intrest in shipping. We've always loved boats, but living next to one of the world's largest hubs of commerce has naturally piqued our interest in the machinery involved. And frankly, the marine diesels that power container ships are mind-blowing. To get a sense of the scale, pull the head on a Datsun 240Z straight-six and set generic plastic army men on it. Now imagine if the army men were actual people-sized people. That's roughly the scale you're dealing with. Oh, and double the amount of cylinders. Then add two more. We're still boggled. [Thanks to Joseph for the tip.]
