With one design revolution in the can, head BMW designer, Chris Bangle says his team is preparing for the next one. Far from admitting any shortcomings in the "flame surfacing" design direction of the past, which led many enthusiasts to declare the last-generation 7-Series "uglier than Tom Petty's bunions," Bangle insists the veracity of his ideas have borne out in customers' view of the company. "Almost no one has had the courage to take a radically new direction the way BMW has," he said. Except for Pontiac, but we all know how that turned out.
