Throughout history, Aston Martins have been lethal. They've been equipped with ejector seats, machine guns, spikes and even self-destruct buttons. But never a breakaway accelerator pedal. That's a new one.
Reuters reports Aston Martin is recalling more than 17,500 cars built as long ago as May 2007 because the Chinese company tasked with making the accelerator pedal arm was using counterfeit plastic.
Pretty much all 2008 through 2014 model-year Astons are affected. Except for the Vanquish, because those accelerator arms were probably still hand carved from wood at that time.
An Aston Martin representative told Reuters there were no reported injuries from failing arms. There's no word if an ejector seat is the solution to the problem, though.
