Welcome to the third episode of Flight Club's Plane Porn! The last couple of weeks, I have been asking for readers to send in their favorite photos they've taken. So, this week, the post is completely devoted photos you've shared. Keep up the great work!
The photo at the top was sent in by Mark Wong. We have a Logistic Air 747, pictured at Senai International Airport in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. It looks like Malaysia's humidity has allowed a thin layer of mold to grow on this aging bird.
Next up, Jordan Witherspoon sent this pic of a DC-3 in Fredericksburg, Texas. Fredericksburg is home to the Hangar Hotel, Enchanted Rock, a surprising wine industry, and the best peaches on Earth (in my humble opinion).
Greg VandenHeuvel saw this beautiful P-51 Mustang at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
Here's a great shot of the B-17 which was in the "Memphis Belle" movie. Paul Bubel saw this at San Antonio's Stinson Airfield with his nephew. Props to Paul for sharing the experience with the younger generation! Building their appreciation for these historic planes will help keep them flying in the years to come.
Rob Johnson shares this photo of an Indian Air Force Boeing C-17 at Long Beach, home of the C-17 factory. Long Beach has a long history of aircraft manufacturing, dating way back to World War II, where the Douglas Aircraft Company assembled bombers. The last airliner built in Long Beach was the Boeing 717, which ended production in 2006.
Ron Vickers Jr took this incredible long-exposure shot of Space Shuttle Discovery mission STS-131 launching at sunset on April 5th, 2010.
Jef Beyens caught this retro-cool F-86A Sabre at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford, England. According to Wikipedia, 9,860 F-86s (all variations) were built between 1949 and 1956, and were flown actively until 1994 by the Bolivian Air Force.
Here's a cool perspective shot by Jeff Carr - standing under the Orbis "Flying Eye Hospital" DC-10 at EAA AirVenture 2012. Interestingly enough, I was at this airshow on the same day and took photos of this plane myself!

Back in the early nineties when I was commuting from NY to Tokyo, Narita Airport opened up Terminal 2. Since Japan does not have eminent domain, they have been buying the land for the airport piecemeal since the sixties. (If you look at a current goggle earth photo now you can still see this). When the terminal opened, they still had not secured all of the land quite yet, and as you can see in the photo attached, a quarter acre or so plum tree farm remained in the middle of the tarmac near gates 93 & 95. This farm was gone about a year later, But the airport is still a mess.
If you are looking to see some great looking planes this weekend, there are a couple of air shows going on. First, you can catch the Blue Angels at "Sun-N-Fun" in Lakeland, Florida. Also, in Columbus, Mississippi is the Columbus AFB Open House, where you can see the Thunderbirds performing.
