One of the things we miss about living in the Bay Area is Danville's Hot Summer Nights. A weekly car show on Thursday nights in August leading up to the much-less-fun Goodguys' West Coast Nationals in nearby Pleasanton, the show is right on the town's main drag, which is shut down to traffic and inundated with hordes of people. The cars range from the generic to the sublime, but the cars are only half the reason. The downtown area is simply flooded with all sorts of people, from your stock Danvillian rich folk to old weird dudes on custom trikes. Plus, middle-aged men play John Mellencamp cover tunes! If you're in the Bay, you definitely owe it to yourself to check it out, John Cougar clones and all.
