Spoiler Alert: Not really. But the AMG GT S is way more exciting and almost as fast around a track where you won’t ever drive it anyway, so you already see where I’m going with this.
Here’s the deal. If you buy a Porsche 911 Turbo for $151,100, you just spent $21,200 over the AMG GT S, only to end up with a car that looks just like any other 911 out there. And trust me, there’s a lot of them.
People will also talk trash about you behind your back for being a cheapass and not forking out the additional $31,600 for a Turbo S. You know, the car that looks the same but is slightly faster?
The good news is that even your regular Turbo will smoke the AMG GT S on a twisty track due to its superior all-wheel drive traction and extra 17 horsepower. The Mercedes will oversteer a bit more and it will never be able to put down its power as efficiently as the superbly engineered Porsche.
But you might still want to spend that $21,200 difference on tires after watching how the AMG GT S behaves when a tall man jumps in it.
It sounds better too.
