While Detectives Keller and Stone ponder and Frank Bullitt sulks, Inspector Harry Callahan leaps into action, as he's amped for the Bullitt Road Rally in SF on August 30th. One of the City by the Bay's most famous claims is that it served as the locale for the most revered car chase in cinematic history. Ford vs. Mopar. Mustang vs. Charger. Green vs. Black. FE vs. RB. GT vs. R/T. Dying at an exploding gas station vs. living to find the fraud who perpetrated the whole mess.
The fine folks from Austin's notable Alamo Drafthouse Cinema have put together the event, which begins across the street from the Marina District Safeway seen in the film. Coincidentally, we were at that Safeway in a Charger the last time we were in SF. And we may well have been listening to the Bullitt soundtrack. The mind boggles, dunnit? Featuring a LeMans-style running start, the participants will be given CDs full of clues to help them on their way. Afterward, an open-air screening of the film will take place in Washington Square Park. While 440s and 390s aren't required for participation, we highly recommend them. [Thanks to Gordon for the tip.]
