From the 1930s through the 1950s, a car company named for its founder, Carl Friedrich W. Borgward, ruled among German luxury brands like Mercedes and BMW. The name, which to modern ears sounds closer to a plot point from a Harry Potter novel than a car company, is nearing a return to the highways of the world. According to a German magazine, the grandson of Carl Friedrich, Christian Borgward, is planning to launch a small luxury sedan under the family name. Details are sketchy, and a 2002 prototype created by an enthusiast (pictured) may give little in the way of hints at Borgwards to come.
