Largely due to our recent entreaties (ok, largely not) GM's Bob Lutz has a new entry on his Fastlane blog. This time, he's touting the bright future of the Pontiac performance brand. The GTO is a hot ride, to be sure, and getting hotter for 2005 — did we think it looked too much like its Aussie Monaro-mate the Cadillac Catera? Yes we did. Why didn't it sell? We think it's at that transitional price point ($30,000) that scares the kids, but at which older folks with higher incomes tend to move up to more refined, more conservative imports. What's the answer? Get the aspirationally motivating GTO Ram Air VI on the road and we'll see how many live-at-home 23-year-olds come running, loan books waving in the breeze. We sure as hell would. Not that you asked, Bob.
