Porsche purists hated the 928 when it debuted in 1977, after nearly a decade of development. It was too big, too bulky, too luxurious, and too damn, well, wieldy, compared to Porsche's headstrong, fishtail-y 911. In other words, it was perfect for cruising the autobahn at 150mph, with not a drop of Kirschwasser spilled from the snifter balanced between the driver's fingers. In other words, perfect for the American market during the Reagan years.
