I tested the safety of my helmet a few years ago and from experience I can’t stress enough on how important the right selection (i.e. how the thing fits on your noggin) is for a helmet. Forget brands, buy for fit. Very good article, must read for anyone wanting to know about helmets.

I wiped out on my bicycle at less than 5 MPH and it split the styrofoam liner in two (my forehead hit the ground first) but I was fine. Different helmet and vehicle type, I know, but a good demonstration of how helmets are supposed to work. Read more
