One more thing about helmets I want to know: How come none of the “big” names make really huge helmets? I’m finally getting my motorcycle license as after >20 years of looking of looking I found exactly one helmet that fits: the HJC CL-Max 2 in 5XL. Yes, 5XL. Even their other 5XLs don’t fit. My head size is unusual Read more

Disclaimer: I’m a new rider so some of these things are still novel ideas to me. I’ve never heard of Pinlock inserts before so I googled them. They sound amazing. I have an amazing ability to make any smooth surface immediately fog in any weather, which is a real pain when I have to ride straight in to the sun on cool Read more

my mom is an ER nurse. She told me once of a man who came in from a motorcycle accident on the highway. somehow pressure built up so much in the man’s helmet head exploded as they were bringing him in to the hospital. Read more

A ridiculous waste of money... that unfortunately I have to shell out. I think I’m able to scratch a visor just by removing the protective mylar, there’s no way in hell my shields aren’t scratched to shit by the end of a year. Read more

Yeah, with used helmets you never know if they’ve been dropped. I’ve seen some dealers offer x-rays of helmets to see if they’re still good, but that’s pretty rare. Read more

I can proudly say that at least ONE of my local dealers is awesome. I just helped a friend fit out for his bike (2002 Ninja 250), and sent him to These Fine Folks. They met or beat RevZilla’s pricing on all the gear he bought, had a helmet that fit him well, and met his budget in a color to match his bike in stock Read more

The parking lot at Revzilla is full of bikes. I've never talked to anyone there that doesn't ride and a few people I ride with have started working there. Nothing but friendly, knowledgeable people, great service, good prices. I can't imagine why anyone would tell people to not shop there. Read more

I am a hipster convert from 3/4 to full face. The Biltwell was my first helmet. Thought nothing of it. Read stories on a tons of motorcycle blogs, /r/motorcycles and forums about having your chin scraped off. I recently invested the money and got the Bell Bullitt RSD. The moment I put it on I knew I would never, ever

All of the above is 100% true. I spent five years at the dealership level, and i shudder to think about how people bought crap because a bad dealer sold them on it. Read more

You should elborate on what “fit your head means”... the crown area and crown shape are more important.. and ignore anything about “squishing your face” as thats NOT the helmet, and on any decent helmet you can get thinner (or thicker) cheekpads.

I alway enjoy these gear write-ups, and I see you went back to add pictures of helmets you guys have enjoyed using. Any chance we can get labels on what they are so I don’t have to browse page after page of Revzilla catalogs trying to match up designs to find the same ones? Read more

Long ago, I road raced. Crashed at 130 at Rockingham in a Bell Star. Stopped to raise a family. Have recently gotten back into dirt bikes, just plonking through the woods. All of my dirt crashes are at 0 to 1 MPH, but often in some nasty rocks. I’m on my second dirt helmet in two seasons. Read more
