And what if the shop has dedicated parts guy and parts counter? The markup pays HIS salary (which is labor) but not the labor from the mechanic. Remember: There are a variety of different places that sell parts.

Um, what if the shop is a dealer and they have a parts counter with a dedicated, full-time parts clerk? And they pay him/her to do his/her job? The overhead of his/her salary is to be added into the mechanics’ labor on the parts that cross the counter? Read more
