Yeah, if you ran stuff off AC, you’d still have to convert it back to low-voltage DC for tons of stuff. The radio and anything else digital would need 5V, 3.3V or even lower, so supplying it with high-voltage AC doesn’t make much sense. Read more

I think it’s a lack of experience, mostly. Things that happen often when you have thousands of cars in the real-world may not have happened when they had 5 mules in the lab.
