The Yaris GR would have been an amazing car in 2012 when I bought my Focus ST. Might have bought it instead.

What I want now, is an AWD EV hot hatch. Any kind of hot hatch in the US, seems unlikely. We’re not even getting ID.3s. I think I’m going to be driving my Focus ST for a long time. Read more

Did somebody say Supernova?

This is what the US “Upcoming Vehicles” section of the Toyota website has to say. Read more

SNR-300 wasn’t just any nuclear reactor. It was a sodium-cooled fast breeder reactor that was intended to address the scarcity of uranium in Germany. SNR-300 was cancelled, and Germany abandoned fast reactor development. The Russians continued it and now have two operational breeder plants. Read more

To be precise the main goal was fast breeder reactor, with as a side product energy. It was a envisioned as a means to produce plutonium with a liquid sodium cooling system (yes the reactive metal). A bit more adventurous than a normal nuclear power reactor. Read more

Audi is REALLY good at making you feel like you should have waited for the mid cycle refresh. They know how to evolve their designs ever so slightly. A secret German automotive equation has probably been devised for such incremental, yet infuriating tweaks. Read more

I saw a piece on him on WDIV news in Detroit yesterday, or the day before. He seems like such an awesome guy. His attitude on life is really inspiring. Great story! Read more

I spent a large chunk of the mid-1990s working in a mom & pop garage/service station. I remember well the wheezy Excels and Sonatas, warmed-over Mitsubishi designs with the build quality of a Snap-Tite model, weeping oil out of every gasket and breaking door handles at an alarming rate. Read more

I never got the hate for the Crosstour. It’s an Accord wagon with nice lines and a bit of a lift. It is probably comfy, useful, reliable, and reasonably priced. The first time I saw one, I thought it looked a hell of a lot nicer than most of the stuff in its market segment, plus hey, it’s a wagon! What the hell is Read more

Man, those pedestrian-safe fronts are really awkward.
