It should be only a few more weeks before I get to drive an 800hp AWD BRZ! My friend is building one and Im seriously fired up to try it out! If my friend can package both into the BRZ, maybe Subaru can too! My vote is for turbo and AWD! Read more

I knew it could be done! I spent almost all my time searching videos! It never occurred to me that someone might build an engine and not let us hear it run. I just assumed I would find video like I did of the other motors. But this is so huge! http://www.hotrod.com/articles/how-to-build-your-own-sheetmetal-engine/ Read more
I thought the “why” was obvious! Because I want to see if I can do it! Because its fun and makes me happy to create new things with my own hands! Because the metal is there and I want to try! Read more
Exactly! I want to build my own engine! And I think we are looking at engines wrong. They are all shaped the same way because of the casting process and need for packing under the hood. So I have two thoughts on this. The first is make the block really wide and large and spread the loads out over greater distances… Read more
EXACTLY! I don’t really plan on using CNC stuff but man the new machines are awesome. I can mount the block and they can true all the tolerances relative to each other when I’m done welding. The crazy hard part is setting up the old school machines. Now with computers and lasers and all these tools for referencing the… Read more
This is a really good point! Thank you! Time to start studying home built motorcycle engines! Read more
Oh I thought the “why” was obvious! Because I want to! People asked why I towed 2,000 miles to WRC Mexico without a legal car or race license. They also asked why I built a BMW for the Baja 1000 and why limit yourself to 14 days and starting on the floor of SEMA? Because I wanted to see if I could do it! I could have… Read more
Yeah there are so many better ways to make an engine. But I don’t have the tools or skills to use those techniques. And as you pointed out, people have been making insane engines long before solid works and CAD/CAM. Take a look at he Mercedes and Auto Union engines of the 1930's! Now their fuel had a lot to do with it… Read more

So Awesome! I keep bumping into your early videos when searching around the internet and it got me thinking. Its sort of how this whole idea started! Thank you for building them and making the videos. I think its very cool when people think way outside the box. Read more
And I remember those plastic engines. My hunch is that the plastic that comes out of the 3d printer isn’t anything like the weirdo plastic they made those engines from. Read more
I’ve kind of explored all those options. Great if you’re an engineer and know solid works. I think creating the sand mold and pouring the block sounds the most interesting to me, but I really want to weld and engine block together. It seems like a really fun way to build an engine. Read more

Yeah but let’s face it, he’s going to drive it to dinner and maybe take it to a cars and coffee. Anyone that would do anything more than that wouldn’t need to ask which one to buy. So most of the awesome packages and models are worthless to that buyer. A cup car? For someone’s first porsche? For someone like me or… Read more
I should have pointed out that was back in 2010-2012. I hear things are substantially better now. Keep in mind that its almost never random violence. Or at least that’s what I’ve heard and read. In other words, if you don’t go poking around and stay in after the curfew(not sure that still exists even) then there’s… Read more

My E36 burst into flames like 15 years ago. Apparently the sunroof cassette wiring got pinched between the chassis or something during a repair under warranty. Naturally the warranty was over when the fire happened. It was huge mess. BMW CCA saved me with their ombudsman program. The dealer refused to acknowledge the… Read more
